Rajawali art gallery is now producing ready-to-hang artworks mostly on Malaysian-themed scenery such as the Abdullahjones’ Mr. Ismail water buffaloes and Osman Limat’s kampong sceneries.

A new addition to Rajawali art gallery, AbiWafi produces portraits of Malay girls/ women. The artwork is acrylic on canvas. The artworks are 4”x4” sized and 1’x1’ sized canvasses.

Osman Limat is one of top scenery artist in Malaysia. He began painting in the 1968, winning major awards such as the annual museum Trengganu Art Contest in 2007. Being a seasoned scenery artist, he taught many young and old artists such as Rajawali’s neighbour, Haji Malik, soon to-be-retired auditor, to become scenery artists.

According to the fans of these artworks, they look very nice hanging in rows of threes. (ahem)

We always wanted to have ourselves or our loved ones being in a portrait, but most of the times, we are too busy to sit in front of an artist to have it done. Now you can send a picture of yourself and/or your loved ones for that matter to have it done.

AbiWafi is the artist who is doing the sketches. AbiWafi started as a portrait painter. He then ventured into batek painting. Now he is back doing what he does best,i.e. painting portraits .We will be uploading his works in the near future.(while you are searching for the best photos to have it done!)…

Abdullah Jones produces batek paintings using nature, animals and people (mostly women) as the subjects. This is the type of paintings sought after by the tourists as they reflect the ability of the Malaysian artists to use a technique alien to them.

He uses a brush as oppose to the traditional ‘chanting’ method to create the outline of the design and colour it before applying sodium silicate and dunking it into hot water to remove the wax and set the colour. The process is repeated for 4 to 5 times to produce batek paintings which are rich in colours and designs.

The usual process of producing batek takes about one day but his mentioned-technique took him 4 to 5 days to complete a painting. That’s in itself reflecting the quality of his works.

However, none of his batek is features in this entry. We will put them here once we have them.

After staying in the UK for some time, he ventured into more diverse techniques and taking various objects as subjects. He learnt that English artists aren’t afraid to portray comedy in their works. This inspired him to inject more fun to his paintings. For example, in his ‘jangan dilepaskan seekor kambing yang tersepit takut jadi seperti melepaskan anjing yang tersepit’, he presented two goats who are discussing whether to free their friend from a haunted tree. This is one example of observation that can be humorous (in the eyes of the goats).

As humorous as he is, Abdullah Jones does have a sensitive side. This is shown is his painting titled ‘pink tree and the white haired thing’. The painting was produced out of his sadness for the death of 19 Chinese workers who drowned when they were trapped by a rampaging night tide while picking cockles in Morecambe Bay, Lancashire in 2004.

Abuyusof is an excellent water-colourist, but most of his works are acrylic abstracts. Don’t ask me why.

He paints to surprise himself. Usually he start with something in his mind (or not). But as his paintings progress,emotion takes control. The end results will be totally unpredictable even to himself. Regardless, he as much would try to paint something which is soothing to the eyes of the audiences.

A cat lover and a Sting (of The Police) fanatic, he is now on Air Asia’s waiting list(KUL-MANCHESTER)('rumah sting kat manchesterkan?' he asked) and is long overdue to pay for the ticket. You can help him by buying his arts.

Smed is an artist producing modern khat (Islamic calligraphy) paintings, in abstract forms. His collaboration with a trained khat artist, Ustaz Wan, since 4 years ago had been sold as souvenirs to offices, private collectors etc. Quite a numbers was sold to the retired-to-be for some reasons unknown!

Malaysians love khat paintings for they lend serenity to a space. The wordings usually used are such as Allah, Muhammad and verses from the Al-Quran.

His paintings are colourful and full of texture. Due to the mixed media (papers, sand, cloth, glue) used in his paintings, the end results are fresh and distinctive. Some of the paintings resemble stone and wood carvings, like in his work titled ‘Basmallah’. His collectors are often surprised when they learned that the main material used in his khat paintings is paper.
